St. Petersburg sits on the Pinellas peninsula, a city of older streets, newer condo towers and a busy small-business scene.
What the numbers say about floors in St. Petersburg
- 258,308 people lived in St. Petersburg in 2020 (U.S. Census Bureau, 2020 Census)
- 1969 median year a home was built (U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey, 2020 to 2024)
- 62.8% of occupied homes are owner-occupied (U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey, 2020 to 2024)
- 2,024 restaurants and other eating places in Pinellas County (U.S. Census Bureau, County Business Patterns, 2023)
The 2020 Census counted 258,308 people in St. Petersburg. About 63 percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied, 55 percent are single-family detached, and 26 percent of housing units are in buildings of ten or more units. The median home was built in 1969, so the typical garage is on a slab over half a century old.
Older slabs are workable, but the prep matters more: grinding off decades of oil and old coatings, filling cracks and testing moisture before a system goes on. Pinellas County counted 2,024 restaurants and 567 auto repair shops in 2023, which adds service bays and kitchens to the list.
St. Petersburg is a city on the Pinellas peninsula (Wikipedia, October 2026).

Garages on older slabs
A garage from the 1960s needs a prep conversation first. After that, flake or metallic goes on well.

Questions about floors in St. Petersburg
Is a slab from the 1960s a problem for epoxy?
Not by itself. It needs grinding, crack repair and a moisture test, as any older slab does. If a slab isn't ready for a coating, we say so before the job starts.
Can a coating handle a floor close to the water table?
Only if the slab's moisture is within what the system allows. Moisture should be checked first, for example with in-situ relative humidity probes (ASTM F2170), and a slab that is too wet should wait.
Do you do commercial floors in St. Petersburg?
Yes: shops, kitchens, studios and service areas. Tell us the use and the cleaning routine and we'll recommend a system.
Can I choose a color for a flake floor?
Yes. Flake comes in blends, and we'll show you options. For a custom palette, metallic is the system where color is the main design choice.
